Making a fire at Camporee

We all wish that it should be possible to have campfires at the camp, but we do understand that there cannot be any forest fires etc. those would ruin our camp. That is why we need to know limitations in using fires.

Fire regulations in Finland during the summer time know only two levels: Normal (green), when campfires and open cooking fires are allowed. The more restrictive level is Forest Fire Warning (red), when open fires are not allowed. These restrictions do not include gas/fuel cookers/stoves or fires which are limited to burn inside a suitable protective shield.

Campsite Iso Kirja allows campfires on the ground with this limitation:
- Lawn should be cut out and removed from the campfire place to be able to put back at the end of the camp.

There are no orders for altar fires.

Remember these things when you make a fire:
- Never leave fire unattented
- Have enough water and a bucket close to the fire (or fire extinguisher)
- Never light up the fire when it is not allowed (Forest Fire Warning)
- Are you unsure if the fire is allowed? Don’t light it up
- Do not play with fire or at close range of fire

Allways check your leader if fire is allowed. She/he should know at least where to ask it about.

The weather has been extremely dry in Finland for last three weeks and Forest Fire Warnings are issued right now in Southern and Central Finland including the campsite. You can check the level from the website of Finnish Meteorological Institute english pages.
